• What stood out to you in the sermon this week?
• Read John 11:45-12:11. What did God reveal to you in the scriptures this week, maybe for the
first time?
• John 11:47-48 says, “So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council and
said, ‘What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.’”
1. What does this scripture reveal about the true motives behind the religious leaders’ hatred of Jesus?

DEEPER:
2. What do you worry you might lose when you surrender everything to Jesus?
3. What is He calling you to deny that you’re hanging on to? (You may fear losing control of your life and giving up desires, relationships and resources that don’t align with God’s purpose. But Jesus requires us to deny ourselves and follow Him for new life. “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:25). It’s countercultural and counterintuitive but He is so worth it.)
4. Mary’s offering of gratitude comes right after a miracle in her life. Her gratitude and love for Jesus Christ welled up in her to the point of overflow.
Share a time when your gratitude and love for Jesus overwhelmed you.
5. Mary used an entire jar of expensive ointment on Jesus. She held nothing back. She
loved Jesus intensely and her soul longed for Him. (See Psalm 42.) How or where have you held something back in your worship of Jesus and how can you cultivate a longing in your soul for Him in your daily life?
6. Martha, Lazarus, and Mary all respond differently to the presence of Jesus.
Discuss their responses. In which of the three ways are you mostly wired? Which may be harder for you and why?
7. Why should all three types of responses be evident in the life of a believer?
8. Judas was a consumer of the goods and services of Jesus. Mary was there to worship at His feet. Describe some of the differences between being a consumer of Christianity and a worshiper of Jesus.
9. Share a time when you were a worshipper and a time when you were a consumer and how those different actions affected you.
